Tenant Services Authority

From the 1st April 2012, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has taken over responsibility for the regulation of social housing in England, and the Tenant Services Authority (TSA) no longer exists.  The department of the HCA responsible for this regulation is known as the Regulation Committee and should you wish, you can read about their new role on their website http://www.homesandcommunities.co.uk/ourwork/regulation

This is a change that the government has brought about via the Localism Bill that was recently passed, but despite the change in regulator, the standards that social housing providers, including Bernicia, are required to provide are still the same as under the TSA. These standards, known as the Regulatory Framework for Social Housing in England from 2012 can be found on the HCA’s website.

This change in regulation will not affect the services you receive from Bernicia, and does not affect your rights as a tenant.

Homes & Communities Agency (HCA)

The main remit of the HCA is to improve the supply and quality of housing in England; to secure the regeneration or development of land or infrastructure in England; and support in other ways the creation, regeneration or development of communities in England or their continued well-being. The Homes and Community Agency is also a delivery partner for Local Authorities; supporting them in strategic place-making and helping to create and shape prosperous and cohesive communities.
