Plans for New Headquarters are Announced
Staff are excited as plans are revealed to move to new purpose-built headquarters.
An accommodation strategy now agreed by the Bernicia board, highlights the proposal to develop a new Headquarters at Ashwood Business Park, Ashington. Work on site will start early in the new year with completion and relocation planned for Autumn 2012.

Swine Flu Information
Due to the current pandemic of swine flu the organisation has issued corporate guidance to allow for business continuity planning and effective management of a pandemic swine flu outbreak.
These documents will outline the risks to service delivery and actions required to mitigate risks along with specific guidance for both customers and staff.

North East Illegal Money Lending Team
In 2004 the DTI launched two pilot projects one in Birmingham and the other in Glasgow. The projects remit were to combat the problem of Illegal money lenders “loan sharks”. As a direct result of their operations, twelve firearms were seized, 100k of counterfeit goods seized, 3M of assets were recovered and a large quantity of controlled drugs were seized. Having Fun Finding Out
As well as the serious business of considering the ideas for neighbourhood improvements, our February Tenant Events provided the opportunity for communities to meet, have fun and find out about a range of advice and support agencies.
The events allowed tenants to become part of the Tenant Services Authority National Conversation - a nationwide discussion seeking to establish how they can and want to be involved in decisions affecting their home, both locally and nationally.

Let's go Walkabout
The estate walkabouts we've introduced have proved a great way for residents to get to know Wansbeck Homes staff and for us to see, at first hand, the issues and opportunities which can improve neighbourhoods.

Taking the Spending to £24m
When Wansbeck Homes was launched we promised huge improvements to houses and services and during our first year we've spent £10 million delivering just that.
This financial year (April 2009 - March 2010) we plan a further £14 million investment. This will keep us on track to spend £80 million improving properties and services by the end of 2012.

Tenant Services Authority Update
The initial stages of the National Conversation has concluded, the Tenant Services Authority have collated tenants’ and landlords’ responses and has now published a consultation document outlining proposed standards for regulations.

Wansbeck Tenant Inspectors
The advertisement for volunteers to become customer inspectors returned agreat response from Wansbeck Homes' residents.
Eight volunteers went on to attend a two day taster event to learn more about the scheme and all progressed to complete a further two days of training in Newcastle.

Biggest scheme set to begin
Work is about to begin on the biggest single improvement scheme Wansbeck Homes has tackled to date.A total of 86 homes on the Stead Lane North Estate in Bedlington are to be virtually demolished and rebuilt at a cost of £7 million.
Reconstruction of the concrete framed and clad Airey homes honours a commitment made in the transfer proposal and is part of the £80 million, five year investment programme that started within weeks of Wansbeck Homes being launched.

Tenant Services Authority
The Tenant Services Authority (TSA), are the new independant regulators foraffordable housing, taking over from the Housing Corporation on the 1stDecember 2008.
The TSA was set up as a result of the 2008 Housing and Regeneration Actwhich increases the TSA's powers over the regulation of social housing.
Their goal, quite simply, is to raise the standard of services for tenants.

Neighbourhood Awards
Wansbeck Homes tenant Dorothy Scott recently attended the Neighbourhood Awards. The Neighbourhood Awards pay tribute to housing associations that have made their local community a better place to live. As part of the commitment to tenant and resident participation tenants and residents were asked to be judges. One of the most successful ways that tenants have made decisions about their homes is by going along to a Choice Day to select their new doors, kitchens, fires and wall finishes that will be installed as part of the major improvement scheme.
